A cute birdcage cake for a vintage winter wedding

Posted on February 5th 2015

My first wedding order and in fact the first order for 2015 and I have to say I loved it from the get go. A woman after my own heart, the lovely bride Joanna loved all things flower, vintage and bird related (My very favorite things!)

On paper the timing of this wedding order could not have been worse as the Sugared Rose HQ was about to be in complete chaos (more on that another day) but not to be detered it actually became one of the most fun so far to complete as it was a welcome break and get away from everyhing going on around us.

Painting the birds and creating all those flowers was a joy! I know I say this a lot but such a lovely and special couple who got married 25/01/15. The whole family were just so welcoming and a real joy to work with. Many apologies about the picture quality as these were taken before delivery. Joanna the bride transported everything to the venue herself and styled all the cupcakes in teacups! Take a look at the last photo sent to me by the Bride.

Joanna aproached me back in September, a little on the rushed side as orders go for me but luckily I was free and more than happy to help. We quickly got togther and with her amazing mum we nailed down all the details and I completed a taster box and a trial mini version of her cake (Pictured). Joanna had seen my painted cakes and birdcage cakes at a wedding fayre and couldn't quite decide on what to go for, so together the three of us looked to combine everything.

So here it is, the actual cake in a few photo's taken before delivery. A vanilla 8inch Birdcage cake with hand painted birds combined with piping details and handmade sugar flowers. The acompanying cupcakes were in vanilla, lemon and red velvet picking up more on the lilac and purple tones running through the whole wedding. I especially loved the colour the roses turned out and really hope to do something similar again soon!

Anyway thats enough overloading you with photo's! Actually go on one more from the Bride herself... (Sorry about the quality this is a scan of an actual photo given to me by them - along with all the teacups they collected! Like I said such a lovely family and so amazingly generous!)

From the bride:

"It was a great day and thank you so much for the cakes I didn't manage to get any cupcakes but they went down well and the cake was lovely, I really didnt want to cut it.' Joanna

From a lovely guest:

It looked absolutly amazing!! The work that went into it was stunning!! And tasted gorgeous too!! Meghan

Anyway I hope you liked this cake as much as I loved making it and of course all those cupcakes! Fingers crossed for a similar order soon and all the best to the new Mr and Mrs!

Sarah

Christmas Wishes xxx

Posted on December 25th 2018

It's been a busy old year here at The Sugared Rose HQ with some ups and plenty of downs. But I wanted to end the year with some positive loveliness and who doesn't love a touch of Christmas? So I thought I share a few photos from a very christmassey shoot we took part in for Elens Wedding Photography and Thomasina Brides.

2017 so far in pictures

Posted on August 24th 2017

I had a little look around the site today and was very ashamed to see that I had not completed a blog post since April! All these promises of regular posts and updates and I have yet again failed and let life get in the way (oops!). So I thought as I am still in the midst of a very hectic season and spending a hour or so on every wedding to post is not on the cards right now (unfortunately), I would just post a quick photo filled run down of 2017 so far.
