Estelle & David - A glittery winter wedding at Shottle Hall
Posted on December 8th 2014
Estelle and David, married at Shottle Hall on Saturday 6th December 2014 and what a lovely winter wedding cake to start with a little post about today.
Estelle first contacted me at the beginning of the year looking for a wedding cake that combined both her French heritage and David's wish for a traditional white wedding cake. Such a really lovely and genuine couple, we had many get together's to go over ideas, themes and colours.
The couple settled on trying to bring in a French element by looking toward combining the style and feel of both a French croquembouche and a traditional plain white wedding cake using a bright white fondant on a traditional sponge, with a cascade of cake pops for a nod towards the French croquembouche style.
So I set about drawing up sketches, ideas and creating a taster (below) for the couple to try:
Shottle Hall is a simply beautiful wedding venue. It was an early start and the first proper frost, not to menion just how heavy the cake was! The guys there were brilliant not a stressed staff member in sight when I arrived to set up. My contact made everything so easy, especially, since when delivering and setting up the cake I had an additional 100+ Cake-pops boxed up ready to be served to each guest with the cake (a really lovely idea that the couple had so that everyone got a pop) I also had instructions for them too, which they accepted very graciously.
The frost on the ground was just magical too (sorry corney line but I couldn't help it!)
The cake pops were a slight worry for me as I had never made so many (and I am still finding red glitter in the kitchen) but they looked really effective. I even had a play with some extra ribbon on the cake with the pops but decided that it made it look a little too festive and not quite what the couple asked for so that was soon discarded. See if you agree from the picture below, there's a couple of close-ups of the pops too.
Anyway what do you think?
I hope you like it especially as it is a little different for me, but so much fun to do and I'll just leave you with a HUGE congratulations to the new Mr and Mrs!
Take care all,
The Sugared Rose x
